Having Trouble Viewing Updates
on this Website?

A friend once mentioned to me she was unable to view a particular page on my website. After checking with both my husband and the webhost company that I use for this website, it turned out her cache was full on her computer.  Now, I don't pretend to be a computer expert; however, I got somewhat of a basic understanding of what was going on and how to resolve the problem.  I figured I would pass along the information in case others end up having the same problem when viewing updates on this site, or any other site.

Web browers can become slow, unresponsive, or frozen if the web browser cache is too full.  If it is too full, you will need to empty the cache.  I was told that AOL users cannot empty the cache on their own, though.  Instead, AOL empties the browser cache automatically every few days.  I believe that is what the gentleman said, anyway.  Others, however, may be able to empty their own cache.  My friend mentioned she also had to hit F5 to refresh her page after emptying her cache.  You can try one of the following steps to empty your cache, depending on the web browser you use.

My friend's web browser is Firefox.  These were the steps used to empty her cache:
1.  Go to Tools, then Options, then Cache, then Clear Cache.

For other web browsers, you can try one of the following steps as described in the Site Builder software for Homestead.com:

To clear your cache in Internet Explorer 5.0+
1.  From the Tools menu, choose "Internet Options."  (The Internet Options dialog box appears.)
2.  If the "General" tab is not already in front, click it.
3.  Click the [Delete Files] button.  (The Delete Files dialog box appears.)
4.  Click [OK], then click [OK] again.

To clear your cache in Internet Explorer 4.0
1.  From the View menu, choose "Internet Options."  (The Internet Options dialog box appears.)
2.  If the "General" tab is not already in front, click it.
3.  Click the [Delete Files] button.  (The Delete Files dialog box appears.)
4.  Click [OK], then click [OK] again.

To clear your cache in Netscape 4
1.  From the Edit menu, choose "Preferences."  (The Preferences dialog box appears.)
2.  In the menu on the left side of the dialog box, double-click the word "Advanced."  (A list of options appears.)
3.  From the list of options, click the word "Cache."
4.  On the right side of the dialog box, click the [Clear Memory Cache] button, and then click [OK].
5.  Click the [Clear Disk Cache] button, and then click [OK].
6.  Click the [OK] button at the bottom of the window.
